"The SWAS - APEX program has helped me throughout my first year because it enabled me to access things I otherwise wouldn't have been able to access; from visits to the VIS, and doing modules to unlock support to use for different purposes to help my swimming."

-  Sophie Ryan, 2026

"Being part of the APEX program has been a truly transformative experience. SWAS has empowered me to become the best version of myself by offering numerous opportunities, including the chance to develop a strength and conditioning program. This experience has had a significant impact on my growth and helped me elevate my performance to new heights. I feel genuinely supported and thrive in the positive environment they foster. I highly recommend the program to any young athlete looking to achieve their full potential.”

A Bit About Me

I first started swimming in 2021, because my friends from primary school got to leave school a few minutes early to make it to training on time, so I felt left out.  My PE teacher told me I wasn't a bad swimmer but we never thought much of it.  I didn't start swimming competitively until probably about 2023 when I made my first Victorian Countries time.  In 2025 I made my first ever Australian nationals time; that's when I really started to show some speed!  At the end of 2025 I qualified for 6 of the 2026 Australian Nationals times, 3 Age and 3 Open!  All backstroke of course. And then finally, up to now in March on a swimming camp in Tasmania, I made the qualifying time for the 2026 Australian and Commonwealth Trials in the 50 backstroke, which then went to Sydney in June to compete!
