GOLF PROGRAM
The South West Academy of Sport (SWAS) 2022 Golf program is proudly supported by Golf Australia, The Victorian Golf Foundation, the Western District Golf Association and Warrnambool Golf Club. The SWAS Golf Program has the specific objective of identifying talented junior golfers and providing them with a level of coaching and athlete education that will assist them in taking the next step in the sport of Golf. Athletes in this program are considered as having entered Golf Australia's High Performance Pathway.
The program is designed to encourage competitive training and play, readying athletes for tournaments, and therefore compliment any lessons/training they are receiving or have received.
Program Structure
Sessions involve a mixture of technical coaching, sport specific training and competition program, group training days, competition support and access to information for athletes in areas such as skill development and competition preparation.
Benefits to athletes selected in SWAS:
Group sessions with a local pro
Tournament support across the program at identified junior tournaments
2x sessions with Golf Australia coaching
Golf Australia High Performance Training Day.
Musculoskeletal screening – conducted by qualified Exercise Physiologists to guide S&C programming and sports specific training
Access to strength and conditioning sessions in a facility in the athlete’s shire over the course of the program. Sessions are ran by qualified strength and conditioning coaches
Education sessions delivered by industry professionals- including injury prevention, recovery, nutrition, sports psychology and specific much more
Skill development and planning with accredited coaches
Sports science fitness testing used to inform S&C and sports specific training over the course of the program
SWAS will support state and national athletes for travel and accommodation to tournaments subject to funding from the Victorian Government Pathway Travel Grant
SWAS Golf Program Selection Criteria
The SWAS 2022 Golf program caters for emerging pre-elite male and female athletes.
Be an existing member of a Golf Victoria affiliated club in the South West.
Reside in the South West region within the defined Local Government boundaries; Moyne, Corangamite, Glenelg, Southern Grampians, Warrnambool.
Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Have reached a satisfactory standard of play based on current player rankings and/or performance at local tournaments and regional events.
Note on Tournaments:
There are a number of local tournaments that athletes are expected to compete in.
Athletes are expected to attend any High Performance camps or tournaments that are nominated by SWAS, Golf Australia or the VRAS Network.
