SWAS Athletes Selected for Athletics Victoria Target Talent Program
Updated: Aug 10
Athletics Victoria has selected SWAS athletes Jacob Mibus (VIC) and Caytlyn Sharp (VIC) to join their 2018 Athletics Victoria Target Talent Program (AVTTP), Jacob will join the Sprint Squad, and Caytlyn will join the Horizontal Jumps Squad.
The Target Talent Program identifies upcoming talented athletes for Athletics Australia’s national high-performance pathway. The program is designed to support elite junior athletes, their coaches and supporters to make the transition to senior national representation.
Athletics Victoria is the governing body for athletics throughout Victoria and aims to provide leading opportunities in athletics to all Victorians. The Target Talent Program invites athletes to be a part of a state level squad and participate in development opportunities to achieve their potential and progress through the Athletics Australia High-Performance Pathway. The program also provides young athletes and their coaches the opportunity to connect with State Coaches.
Jacob was selected to be a part of the Target Talent Program as recognition of his performance and achievements throughout 2017-18. Caytlyn has been chosen for a second time after being part of the Target Talent Program in 2017.
Jacob is a junior para-athlete who competes on a national level in track and field events, winning medals and setting records throughout state and national events. In March at the 2018 Australian Track and Field Championships in Sydney Jacob set a new National U20 and U18 T64 record in the 200m sprint.
Caytlyn has participated in athletics internationally and is an Athletics World Champion at just 15 years of age after claiming victory during Women’s High Jump at the INAS Athletics World Championship in Bangkok last year. Caytlyn also set the U18 Long Jump and U18 200m records at Nationals in March this year. Caytlyn is also one of only two INAS International Ambassadors in Australia and you can read more about the role and Caytlyn’s achievements here.
Both Caytlyn and Jacob are part of South West Academy of Sports’ Individual Athlete Program, focusing on athletics.
The Target Talent Program takes place from May to October 2018, and will focus on six ‘squad days’ that will provide the athletes and their coaches with development opportunities and education sessions, led by the State Coaching Team, along with a collective of sports industry professionals.
