National Athletics Success

Three South West Academy of Sport (SWAS) Athletes returned yesterday from the 2009 UTAS Australian All Schools Athletics Championships which was held in Hobart from Friday 4th – Monday 7th of December.

15 year old Warrnambool College Student, Nathan Krepp collected an under 16 category Bronze in Hammer and discus and a silver medal in shot put in his first National outing. The competition was very close with Krepp falling less that 230mm short of the winners in discus and shot put.

14 year old Cobden Tech thrower Cheyenne Rohan returned home with a silver medal in the under 15 girls Javelin.

Other SWAS competitors included Emmanuel College’s Ben Konigson (17) who finished 13th in the finals of the under 18 boys triple Jump.

SWAS Executive Officer said “The guys should be very proud of their achievements. Just being competitive enough at the states to be selected in the State Squad to compete at the Nationals is a big deal”

“They will have a very busy time from here on in preparing for the Country and State Open Youth Championships in January and February where competition will also be very fierce as the best in the state vie for a spot in the Open Youth State Squad to compete in the National Open Age competition” Mutsaers said.
