February testing Session

Can you run faster than Patrick Johnson?
Or can you jump higher than Steve Hooker? Perhaps you can row faster than James Tomkins?

The Australian Sports Commission’s National Talent Identification and Development (NTID) program wants to know if you have what it takes to be Australia’s next Olympian.

South West Academy of Sport (SWAS) is now one of 28 NTID Testing Assessment Centres (TAC) established across Australia to help discover whether you have what it takes to be an elite athlete.

SWAS will conduct testing on December 12, 2009 at Warrnambool Stadium to test potential athlete’s standing height, sitting height, body mass, arm span, bench pull, vertical jump, 40m sprint and 20m shuttle run.

All individuals tested have the opportunity to be selected into NTID programs. They receive a copy of their individual results and see how they compare to population averages for their age and gender and they give themselves the opportunity to be Australia’s next sporting champion.

South West Academy of Sport Executive Officer, Jeff Mutsaers said “Through our association with South West Institute of TAFE, and Warrnambool Independent Sports we will taking the TAC on the road throughout South West Victoria in October & November and with our mobile facilities we can cater for groups of up to 100 people and are ideal for school, club or university group visits and group discounts are available”.

Nine NTID athletes were chosen as part of the 2008 Beijing Olympic team, while 89 NTID athletes were selected on national teams in the last year. Currently 497 athletes are being supported by NTID scholarships, so for your chance to be part of Australia’s sporting future visit your local Talent Assessment Centre.
