What is the National Talent Identification and Development Program?
The National Talent Identification and Development (NTID) Program is designed to help sports identify talented athletes (12 – 25 years old) and prepare them for participation in domestic, national and eventually, international competition.
The program is an initiative of the Australian Sports Commission and utilises information across all disciplines of sports science to identify young athletes with characteristics associated with elite performance.
Once athletes have been identified they are provided with the opportunity to realise their potential in a high quality talent development program.
What is a Talent Assessment Centre?
The NTID Program has formal partnerships with more than 25 universities and regional academies of sport across the country. These universities and academies operate as as NTID registered Talent Assessment Centres (TAC) and provide physical screening opportunities to the general pubic.
The TAC assessment involves eight basic field tests including;
• Standing height
• Sitting height (provides a ratio of trunk length relative to standing height)
• Body mass
• Arm span
• Bench Pull (upper body strength test)
• Vertical jump (power
Why get tested?
All individuals tested have the opportunity to be selected into NTID programs. They receive a copy of their individual results and see how they compare to population averages for their age and gender and they give themselves the opportunity to be Australia’s next sporting champion.

Especially for clubs and schools
The group booking function allows teachers and coaches to book multiple participants directly into a group testing session at any of our programmed sessions.
Each individual will receive a copy of their testing results (with feedback). The group booking organiser will also receive a copy of the data for the group.
Group bookings of 11 or more individuals are eligible for a discounted booking fee as shown below.
1-10 participants $22 per person
11-50 participants $18 per person
51+ participants $15 per person
NTID FAQ’s
How do I make an NTID booking?
Go to ausport.gov.au/etid and select the green bookings button at the top of the etid homepage. Follow the prompts to make either an individual booking or group booking for multiple athletes.
Can anyone be tested at a TAC?
Any Australian citizen aged between 12 and 25 can participate in TAC testing. If you are under 18 years old you will need parental or guardian permission.
How much does it cost?
A booking fee uf $22 applies to each individual booking made. Discounts are available for group bookings of 11 or more individuals.
What happens after the session has been completed?
Each individual will receive a copy of their results via email, along with feedback on how their results compare to population averages. Results will also be uploaded into the NTID database and any individuals demonstrating a strong suitability for targeted NTID Sports may b contacted directly for advanced screening and assessment.

SWAS and NTID at a glance
• SWAS has become a Talent Assessment Centre for the NTID Program
• SWAS will deliver this program in partnership with South West Institute of TAFE
• SWAS will be using mobile testing facilities and will visit regional centres throughout Southwest Victoria
• Secondary Schools and sports clubs across South West Vic can arrange exclusive testing sessions on request. (minimum numbers apply)
• The current NTID sports are Athletics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Diving, Hockey, Judo, Rowing Shooting , Skeleton and Triathlon
• Target age of athletes is 12 – 25 years old
