Junior Tennis Players Wanted

Are you a talented young tennis player who wants to achieve at the highest level?

The South West Academy of Sport (SWAS) is a not for profit administrative body funded by state and local government along with state sporting bodies & corporate partners to provide training, education and professional services to promising South West athletes.

In March 2010, SWAS will induct new athletes to their tennis program for 12 month contracts.

The 2010 Program includes
• Fortnightly* regional training & matchplay with experienced accredited coaches *excluding holidays
• Athlete services program including tennis specific nutrition, hydration, match recovery workshops integrated into training sessions.
• Tournament play: 5 OJT’s including Adelaide & Vic Regional Academies Challenge (Top tier) & 1 Challenge Match (All athletes)

Do you meet the following criteria?
• Applicants must have a strong desire to achieve at the highest level
• Applicants must reside, attend school or be registered and competing in a club or association within the five funding shires of SWAS (Corangamite, Warrnambool, Moyne, Glenelg, Southern Grampians)
• Applicants must be a junior Tennis Victoria registered player
• Applicants must register & attend a “Try Out Day” on Saturday February 27th at the following times at the following locations; 9 a.m. Portland Lawn Tennis Club, 12 p.m. Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club, 3 p.m. Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club & 6 p.m. Camperdown Lakes Complex. • Tryouts will be conducted by a Tennis Victoria Coach & selections will be based on tournament results and “Try Out Day” performance.
• Applicants must submit a completed application on or before the try out day. Forms available at www.swas.org.au in the document section or at the try out.

SWAS Ranking System

The South West Academy of Sport has introduced a new internal ranking system for all athletes.  The bottom ranking, J represents the minimum selection criteria, and A reflects as far as an athlete could reasonably achieve whilst in the academy system.  This ranking system also enables SWAS to measure it's sucess from beginning to end of year, and year on year and assists in preparing reports for key academy stakeholders.

D     Qualified or Competing at Open National level
