SWAS Athlete Penny Smith was given the opportunity to meet Her Royal Highness the Queen on the 26th of October, 2011. Penny was overjoyed by her invitation to the royal reception at Government House but was caught by surprise when Her Majesty chose to speak to her out of hundreds of others wanting her attention.Smith said that her nerves became more apparent as the Queen inched closer and closer; “it was just fantastic. She was a really nice person to talk to” Penny told Warrnambool newspaper The Standard.
SWAS nominated Penny to meet The Queen because of her outstanding achievements in the sports of shooting, equestrian and football over the year.
